The National Hurricane Center expects a weather disturbance to become a tropical storm Friday as it moves toward the northern U.S. Gulf Coast. As of 7 a.m. Friday, the disturbance, which would be named Nestor, continues to be messy and poorly organized in the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters say it's about 305 miles south-southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River with top sustained winds of 40 mph. It is moving northeast at 21 mph.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana to the mouth of the Pearl River and the Mississippi-Alabama line to Yankeetown, Florida.
