Johnson is now required by law to ask the EU to delay Britain's departure, currently scheduled for Oct. 31.
Pro-Eu protesters celebrated the news, but Brexiteers bemoaned the delay.
"I'm disgusted with all of the delays," said Brexiteer Amy Dalla Mura.
She said she could not understand the "forever delay" and saw it as a plan by lawmakers to reverse Brexit.
Brexiteer Derek Marshall said he was equally as disgusted with the parliamentary procedure over the past three years, saying lawmakers weren't interested in democracy, but rather in "feathering their own nests."
A defiant Johnson has said he still aimed to meet the deadline and would not "negotiate" a postponement with the EU.
The bloc said it would wait to hear from the British government about what it wanted to do next.
The extension delighted Remainers who marched in a "People's Vote" rally in London on Saturday, in what was a large turnout despite the rain and cold weather.
