Let's Have a Good Discussion about the Philippine Navy Corvette Acquisition Program!

Let's Have a Good Discussion about the Philippine Navy Corvette Acquisition Program! The Philippine Navy (PN) and the Philippine Ministry of National Defense (DND) have recently been very open in their asset acquisition plans under the Horizon 2 phase, including how they plan to acquire assets, or where they plan to acquire them.

In the PN case, among the stated priorities openly were the acquisition of a new Corvette, Offshore Patrol Boat (OPV), Landing Platform Dock (LPD), Intermediate Missile Attack Interaction Craft (FAIC-M), and Submarine.

From the above projects, only the Landing Platform Dock project will be obtained through a Public Offering, and the bidding process is still ongoing at the time of this entry. Everything else must be obtained through Direct Negotiations or a Government-to-Government Agreement (G2G) between DND and its foreign partners.

MaxDefense believes that of all those on the list to get G2G, the Corvette Ship and Offshore Patrol project is the most urgent project. But in this case, let's talk about an update to the Corvette Acquisition Project.

With the project grant coming soon, MaxDefense will be more appropriate to discuss the project again based on more recent information.

the latest information about the Corvette Acquisition Project more than a year ago in May 2018.

for information about what we believe to be the general technical requirements of corvettes based on the information we collected at the time.

MaxDefense was also informed that other shipbuilders such as Naval Group of France, Navantia of Spain, Saab Kockums Naval Solutions of Sweden, and Shipyards of India Goa had shown interest in sending their offers.

Just before the end of 2018, MaxDefense accepted the more accurate general technical requirements regarding the Corvette Acquisition Project, which further refined what the proponent requested to provide compared to the previous requirements.

Although the revised requirements are not too far from the previous list, this gives us more clarity about what the Philippine Navy wants in their corvette.
