Advance payment is a prevailing model for fraudsters to target victims to make upfront payments for goods, services and/or financial gains that never materialize. I had recently listed an Activa on sale on OLX. Within 5 minutes of placing the ad I receive a call from a man claiming to be working in the Indian Armed forces CSD canteen who had seen the ad on OLX and was interesting in buying this.
First Suspicion : Hmm, why are you telling me what you do? I am a seller, selling off an Activa on OLX. Not a father looking for a prospective groom for my daughter on a matrimony site. I let it pass though.
Next, he says he likes the product and would like to buy it. We haggle around the price for 10 seconds and he agrees on my inflated price all of a sudden.
