Skittish Cheetal deer tippy-toe their way down to the water's edge, wary and alert

Skittish Cheetal deer tippy-toe their way down to the water's edge, wary and alert What a lovely forest track crossing the Kabini forests with a multitude of bird calls in the soundtrack. A small grouping of Gaur chew their cud in the sun, while a skittish duo of Chital fawns approach a water hole for a drink, all the while cautious of the presence of tiger and leopard. Sambhar, Spotted deer and Indian Bison, Kabini | India

A semi-adult male Sambar (Rusa unicolor) crosses a forest path in open woodland in Kabini, Karnata. Another male individual is reaching out for a tree branch for its shoots.

Juvenile Chitals or Spotted deers roam with an adult and go for a drink in a water hole.
"They are extremely nervous animals and are always on the alert for a stalking predator. They are often seen under trees housing Langurs, due to their higher perch, the langurs forewarn them about approaching danger and Langurs also provide food material to deers, like fruits and lives."- Abhinav Nature Conservation

A pair of Gaurs or Indian Bison (Bos gauras) sprawls near a thicket basking in the sunlight with a crow sitting on its back. Gaurs are considered the biggest wild cattle. They are endagered and threatening for other species at the same time. They are known for their vicious and aggressive behavior when threatened. Instances of Gaur attacks on even the most adept hunters, tigers have been recorded. They are also known to venture out in human settlements.
