"The anonymous White House official who wrote of a “resistance” movement working to save the nation from Donald Trump’s worst impulses makes a stunning claim in their upcoming book: that members of the Trump administration once considered doing something brave. In A Warning, which describes the president as a cruel, narcissistic buffoon and seems to be aimed at readers who’ve been in a coma for the past four years, Anonymous writes that in 2018, top Trump officials weighed resigning en masse in an attempt to sound alarms about their boss, but ultimately declined to do so out of concern that their “midnight self-massacre” could leave the government even more debilitated.
“I am not qualified to diagnose the president’s mental acuity,” the author writes, according to excerpts of the book obtained by the Washington Post. “All I can tell you is that normal people who spend any time with Donald Trump are uncomfortable by what they witness. He stumbles, slurs, gets confused, is easily irritated, and has trouble synthesizing information, not occasionally but with regularity. Those who would claim otherwise are lying to themselves or to the country.”*
