Minecraft for Insomniacs - 01x44 || Mars Outpost One || Rocket Gantry - Part V

Minecraft for Insomniacs - 01x44 || Mars Outpost One || Rocket Gantry - Part V Hello, and welcome to Minecraft for Insomniacs.

This series is a weekly one-hour video diary that documents my incremental and cumulative advancement in one or more Minecraft maps.

:::: IN THIS EPISODE ::::

I finally solved the puzzle of the folding staircase and that means I return to using WorldEdit to help me build.

This is actually the follow-up video to the process of building the staircase. I've heard people might get nauseous watching Minecraft videos which have a lot of swooping and spinning. For me, building stairs is one of the most fun things to do so I filmed it anyway. "Is this too spinny?" I asked as I watched. I couldn't really tell, so decided to film this alternative.

I'm again reminded how helpful it is to be the first viewer of these episodes, because I'm able to spot problems that need fixing. Two that stick out this time: there are still quartz pillar blocks that need to be rotated following the copy/paste and also I added a connecting block in four locations that span the gap where the pieces of the gantry move apart and so it was appropriate for that gap to remain. So, I'll have to go back and fix those things next time I play in the map.

This episode is a little different in that I wanted to feature something specific at the end, so I lopped off the front instead of the back.

At the end, I descend the staircase so I can demonstrate how the dual airlock works. It seals in two places which bisect the staircase and the stairs become part of the airlock structure when it's closed. Remember, one of the functions of red wool in this map is to signal a closed airlock. Since this map will never articulate, will never be able to demonstrate how the gantry lifts the rocket into place, I wanted to show where the stiarcase is properly sealed when it is folded down, and why there are two rings of orange wool in close proximity to one another.
