Pigeon Prognosis | Behind-the-Scenes of the Wildlife Clinic at the Schuylkill Center

Pigeon Prognosis | Behind-the-Scenes of the Wildlife Clinic at the Schuylkill Center Observe Wildlife Clinic rehabilitators Rebecca and Chris care for a young pigeon patient, who came to the Clinic very weak and a high level of parasites. His low weight and weakness could be from lead poisoning, which can be difficult to diagnose based on symptoms alone.

Watch as Rebecca and Chris administer the pigeon's anti-parasite medication and then perform a blood test for lead toxicity. You'll learn how lead poisoning presents in animals and why accurate testing is so crucial to recovery.

This video is part of a special series of behind-the-scenes video tours for Giving Tuesday 2019. Thanks to our donors who contributed to our Medical Equipment Fund, the Clinic is able to purchase additional high-quality equipment for the hospital: a centrifuge blood test machine to improve our diagnostic capabilities, and replacement anesthesia supplies.

Watch the other two tours -- "Pheasant Feet" and "Turtle Treatments" -- on our playlist here:
