Across from our veranda we have this kapok tree were various birds can be seen throughout the day. And these days this little Flowerpecker has used it regularly.

The Red-keeled Flowerpecker is common in the Philippines.

Conservation status: Least Concern (Population stable) see


It prefers the canopy of forests, forest edge, second growth, and shrubs in open country in fruiting and flowering trees. You can see it alone or in groups, and mixed flocks. Look for this species below 1000 m.

L 100 mm (4''); W 55 mm; T 27mm; B 13 mm

Call is snappy, seep seep seep followed by zit zit zit
Think of the sound of a sparrow but sharper and you have an idea how it sounds.

Breeding i from March to August.
