Small scale hydroelectric power generation harnessing the energy in water to produce green energy

Local renewable power generation is an increasingly important part of our electricity mix as we move away from a reliance on fossil fuels. We visit Whitby Esk Energy's small scale hydro plant to find out more. The project uses a combination of ancient and modern technology to produce green energy from moving water. An Archimedes screw, a wier from the industrial revolution and an induction motor coupled with a variable frequency drive.
