An original story describing how the holidays are celebrated. Below is the reading script
A MIXED HOLIDAY (Special Narration)
The night of Christmas Eve, I walked towards Merry Motherland street, and all over my view was filled with a beautiful holiday glow.
It was my first time ever, to discover a lovely area that truly honors the holiday mood on both sides. The beautiful, serenading music from the speakers, and also live choirs harmonizing the neighborhood’s ears. It made me feel in awe to stay. I continued walking around like Santa giving gifts without his sleigh.
There were two lanes connecting a round about on Merry Motherland street.
One of them was the Shamash lane, a lane of many menorahs, behind windows of each of the beautiful houses I found. People surrounded themselves on the dance floors, and lifted one another up in the air, like a team celebrating their player. I could imagine the hard work they put to make this possible. Hard work forever pays, and Hanukkah is that major moment in many events to celebrate that. It is forever a blessing to be in that moment when you have worked your hardest. And they all deserved it.
As I continued my journey through Merry Motherland, I toured the Deck the Halls lane. As the parents made love under the mistletoe, the children played outside like angels in the snow. I would not deny that it left me speechless in my mind, but at the same time, I couldn’t admit that this was cute and beautiful. As they take their time for midnight to clock, they beautify the house with twinkling lights, bake cookies in the favor of Santa and prepare a feast for the next bright day, in order to open their presents.
In Merry Motherland, people provided charities to the homeless and kids in the two lanes I observed. In Uganda, I only knew about the holiday as a day of receiving gifts, and eating chicken as a special, expensive treat that my family and I could have as food. Today, I learnt that giving life to some one, makes the holiday more special, rather than embracing the holiday to yourself.
So, the holiday is here! It’s that special time to embrace! As the year comes to an end, let the excitement burn within your heart. To give more life to another, brings a greater feeling inside. But remember one thing, you make it meaningful. When you beautify these moments, others admire and will cope to do the same. And that is what Merry Motherland did for me.
-Happy Holidays!!!
