So Davis has all the time in the world to shoot this wide open 3 pointer.
But if you think that genius play calls are the reason why the Latvian is shooting lights out this season, you couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, a lot of his shots are either contested, or from way out, and are definitely not designed plays. He just catches the ball and fires away heat checks. And crazy enough, makes a ton of these.
Let me show you what changed for Bertans and why this is a revenge season for him. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
Last year I made a video about the NBA snubbing him from the 3 point contest. He was the number 1 shooter percentage wise at the all star break and asked to participate in the shootout. But the league couldn’t make room for him and instead included guys who could generate more views. As you can see here, the numbers speak for themselves. So, combine that with the fact that at the end of the season he was traded away to a Washington team that’s going nowhere, just so that the Spurs could have cap space to sign Marcus Morris. Which they failed to do, but that’s a different topic for a different day.
So now, you have him angry, on a team with nothing to lose, racking up 150 points some games. And check out the result.
The dude pretty much doubled his averages, as you can see here while shooting at a better percentage.
And look at these ridiculous shots. He definitely wasn’t firing these away under Gregg Popovich.
So to take twice as much shots, and to have a better percentage, while shooting these types of heat checks. This is absolutely crazy.
So now this season, Bertans is number 6 in attempts and number 3 in makes from downtown. At the top in both categories. And 45.2 percentage wise.
You know that saying be so good that they cant overlook you? I feel like that’s what he’s trying to do right now. If he keeps it up for just another month, Davis is a lock for the 3 point contest this year.
And guess what? This is his contract year. So things are definitely interesting for him.
1. He is definitely gonna get big money after this season. Deservedly so. But 2, if the Wizards are going full rebuild mode and don’t plan to offer him that, they’ll be looking to trade him elsewhere. And do you have any idea how much he can help a contending team in the playoffs?
This could get very fun, very soon, so definitely keep an eye on him as he continues his revenge tour going from city to city showing the entire NBA why they need to put some respect on his name.
