*HOW TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON DIFFERENTIATION BY THE PRODUCT RULE

1. Carefully examine the expression that has to be differentiated. If the expression can be split into two functions that are multiplied by each other, then apply the product rule

2. Write the formula for the product rule below the question: dy/dx = f’(x)g(x) + f(x)g’(x)

3. For each of the two separate functions, define one as f(x) and the other as g(x) as shown in the formula in step two

4. Before using the formula, differentiate each function respectively

5. Finally, use the formula in step two in order to differentiate the expression. If relevant, factorise the final answer at the end
