Steely Dan's history stretches back over fifty years and more. In those few decades, the often tight-lipped band has accumulated quite a few mysteries. None more so mysterious than the bands twenty plus "Demos" that have circulated since the 1980's. They are rough cuts of perspective songs from Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's pre-Steely Dan period. Despite their dislike of the materiel, it still circulates to this day due to a few legal loopholes.
Albums like "The Early Years", "Sun Mountain", and the infamous "Android Warehouse". A demo and album with a long, convoluted history full of mistakes behind it. A history Becker and Fagen preferred remained unknown. Which it still does... to a degree. This video hopes to explain how these albums came to be despite Steely Dan not seeing a penny from them. All songs and legal strictures linking back to one manager from the early 70's.
What truly is in the Android Warehouse though?
