Can you really not do anything else whilst listening to the Qur'an? - Sh 'Abdul Rashid 'Ali Sufi
A number of scholars consider it impermissible to put the Qur'an on and make it like a background track and then do other things like chores, driving, homework etc because Allah says, "Pay attention and listen quietly when the Qur'an is recited, so that you may be given mercy." (7:205)

However Sh 'Abdul Rashid 'Ali Sufi argues that we should allow people to listen to the Qur'an even in these situations...
