I Worked With My Mom And Got Her Fired

I Worked With My Mom And Got Her Fired Hello, I’m Lydia, I’m 18, and I used to believe that my Mom was a kind and good person, but then everything I believed in was crushed over a few days... and it also led to some DISASTROUS results, even causing people to lose a lot of money.

I lived my whole life with just my Mom, and our life was pretty good. We always had money because my Mom is one of the bosses at the company she works at. And she was a good mom - very supportive and kind to me, and I always wanted to be more like her. I wanted to give something back, so I asked her if I could work as a temp at her company while I had my summer break. My Mom was happy to hear it and quickly arranged everything. It wouldn’t be a paid job, but Mom would give me money anyway. She told me to be quiet about me being her daughter because she didn’t want me to get special treatment. I was fine with it, I was sure nobody would ask for my last name, and only few people would actually know the truth.
So I started working at the office, helping people with small things, like printing stuff or checking documents that weren’t too important. I loved this experience and wanted to see more of my Mom’s world. But I quickly realized that everything was a little bit different from what I was imagining. To be more specific - my mom was different.

You see, when she was at home she was always smiling, making jokes, and being generally easy-going, she was the complete opposite at work. My interactions with her were limited, but I saw and heard what other workers thought of her. After every meeting they had with my Mom, they would look sad and tired. One woman would cry after every interaction with her, and others wouldn’t pay any attention to it, because it was just a normal everyday event for them. The nicest thing they would call her was “a scary demon,” let me repeat that, it was THE nicest thing.

And they did talk about her a lot. I could hear whispers through the office every day, discussing how she made someone redo the entire day's worth of work, forcing them to stay after work hours. Every day I would come home and Mom would ask how my day went and I would try to smile and stay positive, but I couldn’t see my Mom in the same way I did before.

One guy, Allan, was the nicest person ever and everybody liked him. He would bring sweets to everybody in the office, even for me, even though I had only worked there for two weeks, and he made me feel very welcome in general. He was very friendly and we even kind of became friends. And soon I saw what my Mom was capable of with my own eyes.

She stormed into the office, her high heels clattering menacingly. Everybody immediately looked down or at their monitors, trying to bring as little attention to themselves as possible. She came right next to Allan’s table and started lecturing him, loudly. She was almost shouting. She was mad at him for one of his reports being late and inaccurate. He tried to respond that his workload was too heavy, and Mom told him that what he was saying was just an excuse and if he wanted to keep his job, he needed to step up his game. Then she stormed out, throwing scary glances at other people and I saw Allan’s face, full of anger and desperation. I couldn’t help but start hating my Mom.

While everybody else kept quiet, Allan was tired of it and wanted to finally deal with my Mom. He slowly started to interview everybody in the office, collecting complaints and persuading people that they needed to do something and not just ignore this kind of abuse. The complaint document was getting pretty big, and I decided to warn my Mom.

Yes, I was kinda on the side of the workers, but I loved my Mom and didn’t want her to get in trouble. So I told her what was happening when we were at home. My Mom smiled softly, kissed me on the forehead, and said “thank you.” I thought that she would change her ways and maybe become a bit softer to people, but something completely different happened.

Allan was called into my Mother’s office and when he came out, he started to pack his things. He was sad and angry at the same time. I asked him what happened and he told he was fired and she listed many reasons, but he believed that someone ratted him out for collecting “evidence” against my Mom. At this point he sat on his chair and started sobbing. It turns out, he was fired without severance pay because he had violated a lot of rules in the last few months. You know, those kinds of rules everybody ignores, but my Mom kept records of every violation, JUST IN CASE...
