Bankrate's Expert Mortgage Rate Predictions for February 20-26

Bankrate's Expert Mortgage Rate Predictions for February 20-26 Hi guys! Welcome back to Bankrate’s weekly expert poll for mortgage rate predictions. This is where we ask financial experts to give us their predictions for next week’s mortgage rates.

According to Bankrate’s latest national survey of mortgage lenders, today’s interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is 3.75 percent, inching up 4 basis points from this time last week. On Bankrate dot com, the average rate clicked on, by consumers, was 3.78 percent, just a few basis points higher than the national average.

Now let’s see if our experts think today’s rate will rise, fall or stay flat next week.

And here are the results...

15 percent of experts think rates will go up
23 percent of experts say that rates will go down
62 percent of experts predict that rates will stay the same

Rates are still well below 4 percent, which is still very low, so buyers hoping to get ahead of the spring home shopping season can do well by locking in rates now. The same goes for folks who want to refinance into a lower rate and save money each month.

Thanks for watching. Come back next week when we have a fresh crop of rate forecasts.
