Focus for 'manufacturing capability' is 'firmly on Ford'

Focus for 'manufacturing capability' is 'firmly on Ford' Industry Minister Karen Andrews says General Motor's announcement to axe Holden is a "devastating blow" and that she is turning her focus to "making sure the workers and dealers are looked after in this transition”.

Ms Andrews said Holden was “incredibly ingenuous” because they had "the beneficiaries of about $2 billion in Commonwealth funding over a number of years”.

She praised Ford and said they were “looking at investing $500 million in Australia over coming 12 months and looking to hire more people” and will be “holding them to account on that”.

Ms Andrews said Ford was able to “demonstrate this is what you can do with government support and an organisation that is willing to take some risks and invest in not only Australia but the people in Australia".

“My focus in terms of manufacturing capability in Australia is now firmly on Ford.”
