DRIP was onsite at the 2020 Pacific Agriculture Show in Abbotsford, British Columbia, to get the inside story on the latest trends, equipment, technology, and innovations in the agricultural industry. We stopped by the Lely booth to chat with Gray Prescott, Sales & Project Management at West Coast Robotics, an authorized Lely Dealer. Gray is a veteran of the Pacific Agriculture show, having attended for six years.
West Coast Robotics provides automated solutions for all the tasks required on a modern-day farm; everything from robotic milking equipment, autonomous feed pushing, manure cleaning, and more.
The 2020 Pacific AG show was an exciting year for West Coast Robotics and Lely, who brought a new autonomously driven machine called the Lely Discovery that moves throughout a farm to clean all the manure from cows. This product was receiving a ton of interest from farmers at the show. Gray and his team were happy to be onsite answering questions and demonstrating the product in person.
The Lely Discovery sprays water to keep floors clean and prevent slips. It is low maintenance, adaptable to any layout, and leaves no wave of manure -- significantly reducing labour and time.
The robotic milking system is the flagship product, well established in the region but still widely popular at the show, with about 172 of the products running in British Columbia - which represents 12% of all the cows milked in the province.
The Pac-Ag show is a big deal for West Coast Robotics, providing opportunities for Gray and the team to see old customers, create new relationships, and network with other industry manufacturers in the territory. The team uses the opportunity to learn what farmers and contractors are interested, and what improvements people plan to make over the next calendar year.
Working with farm-technology, Gray was interested to see what else the 2020 Pacific Agriculture Show had available, however was so busy at the show that his time was limited.
DRIP's personal quest for the best food sample at the show continued at the event, however, Gray wasn't able to provide a recommendation other than the cookies offered at the Lely booth. The search goes on!
