Russia promising cash incentives to encourage families to have more children

Russia is promising cash to new parents to persuade families to have more babies and boost the struggling population. First-time parents will receive one-off payments of more than US$7,000, with other payments for bigger families and people on low incomes. The fertility rate fell to 1.5 births per woman in 2019. President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia's future depends on lifting it to at least 1.7 births per woman.
