Today we will be discussing the importance of LED lamps and why it is important to choose the right quality of lamp.
The reason for this is that, if you see your LED screen around 50% - 80% of the cost of the LED screen is coming from the LED lamp.
So, LED lamp is a very important component of the LED screen.
If you buy a wrong quality or a fake type of LED lamp, it will create a lot of maintenance problems maybe 6 months or one year down the line.
If you see the structure of the LED lamp as the diagram shows, this is an LED lamp and there is an encapsulation, which is like a packaging for the LED lamp.
There is a chip, so chip is basically the silicon which emits light.
There is a bonding wire which is a connection wire from the chip to the soldering wires. And these are the soldering legs.
The two main components of the LED lamp are the chip and the encapsulation.
The size of the chip is very important as far as LED lamp is concerned as it determines a lot of parameters like brightness, refresh rate and the performance of the lamp.
The different brands of LED lamps available in the market today and which are used popularly in India are Nationstar, Kinglight and KNlight.
These are the main three used in India as you see these are the different bonding wires.
Nationstar will have gold and copper wire, Kinglight will have gold and copper wire, KNlight normally uses copper wire and there are these other categories of lamps.
Sometimes are claimed to be Nationstar or Kinglight but are not actually Nationstar. The people who are offering them may know or may unknowingly say its Nationstar but are fake or are other brand of lamps.
These other brands sometimes use copper wires or use low quality of iron wires which may pose a threat for after sales maintenance after few months.
For Xtreme Media we use Nationstar lamps in 95% of our products as it is the largest company in China making LED lamps.
Nationstar as you can see is a publicly owned company based out of China. It was founded in 1969, 50 years of experience in making LED lamps. They have 700 R&D engineers and more than 400 patents in the field of LED lamps.
As you can see it’s a national high-tech enterprise of China and a very experienced company having a good hold and pioneer of developing SMD lamps in the world.
If you see Nationstar and other brands of lamps, what is the main difference between the two?
As you can see in the diagram, Nationstar will have a bigger chip size and other brands will have a smaller chip size.
What this means is that it has direct impact on the brightness and if you make an LED screen with Nationstar it will be brighter.
For example, P3 it will have 1200nits but if you make it with another lamp the brightness will be comparatively lower.
For example, for P3 it will be 800 – 1000nits. On an average the brightness will decrease by 20% – 30% in non-Nationstar lamps.
The decay of brightness will be slower in Nationstar but will be faster in other lamps. Chances of short circuit; so, whenever you see a dead lamp in the LED screen what it means that the LED bonding wire has met some short circuit.
The chances of short circuit are less in Nationstar but are more in other lamps.
Also, one advantage of Nationstar lamps is it has better performance
in higher refresh rate conditions
but in other lamps will performs poorly in high refresh rate conditions
So, when you shoot by camera you will see some lines in between in other lamps
Currently the trend in India is that every player in the market claims that they use Nationstar lamps.
But this not true a lot of players knowingly or unknowingly use fake Nationstar lamps which is not Nationstar.
So how do we identify if we are using genuine LED lamps from Nationstar?
Nationstar provides free service in their RGB division in China. You can send a module sample to Nationstar directly and they will give you a report within 15-20days.

You can also send the sample to us and we can test the sample in Xtreme Media’s R&D lab and provide you an official report from Nationstar.
