Ruptly is live from Saraqib near Idlib on Friday, March 6, following a ceasefire agreed between Syrian government forces and Turkish-backed forces, secured by Moscow and Ankara.

Saraqib, which sits alongside the crucial M5 highway between Damascus and Aleppo, was recently the scene of intense fighting between the Syrian Arab Army and Turkish-backed forces.

The ceasefire agreement followed a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Moscow, where the leaders met to discuss the situation in Idlib.

The killing of 33 Turkish troops last Friday had sparked a new escalation between the parties to the conflict.

In Moscow, both leaders settled on creating a security corridor six km deep to the north and six km deep to the south from the M4 Damascus Aleppo International way, where a joint Turkish-Russian patrolling will begin on March 15, 2020.
