This exercise is commonly performed in ways that really diminish its benefits for muscle growth, people often utilise way too much momentum etc with the focus mostly being on how much weight they are lifting. Lateral raises for a start aren't an exercise prime for heavy weight, do not worry about the weight your lifting for this exercise but rather HOW YOUR LIFTING THE WEIGHT! When your goal is muscle growth you should actually be looking for ways to make the exercise harder that add more tension to your target muscle, this has negative effects on how much weight you can lift but positive effects for muscle growth. So in this case you will need to lighten the weight your using to accomodate for the technique I show you in the video but it will direct much more tension to the shoulder itself and make it do a lot more work compared to if you had some heavier weight that you were using momentum to get up.
