Worcester Revitalization is Continuous and Refreshing

Worcester Revitalization is Continuous and Refreshing The City of Worcester, Mass. has been undergoing recent revitalization projects to enhance the overall implied vision. Throughout the city there has been mural artwork to liven up the overall visualization. The most memorable works of art can be captured through downtown, a couple of public schools, and Great Brook Valley which is part of the Worcester Housing Authority. Great Brook Valley is a community for low income Worcester residents that are receiving partial or full subsidized housing. The implementation for the works of art around the city is due to Pow Wow Worcester.

Christina Davis, 31, Worcester, Mass. resident says, “I walk everywhere in Worcester since I don’t have a car. I enjoy looking at the local art around my city I feel it helps with the look of it all and I can relate to it.”

Since 2016 there has been murals painted on behalf of Pow Wow and as of today has a total of 106 murals for the public to enjoy. The artist creating these murals travel from different states such as New York, California, Rhode Island, and some even come from different countries such as Japan, Greece, France, South Korea and more. A couple of murals in 2016 and 2017 paid tribute to the smiley face initially created in Worcester, Mass by Harvey Ball. As described in an article the smiley face is one of the most famous smiles even more than the Mona Lisa.

The famous smiley face is also being used as a mascot according to WCVB 5 ABC news for the triple A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Currently the team resides in Pawtucket, R.I. and are known as the PawSox but once they move over to Worcester in 2021 their newly adopted nickname is going to be the WooSox. The construction site near Kelly Square is in full swing since the groundbreaking of Polar Park this year from the 12th of July. The website for Polar Park displays a real time countdown to opening day which is set to be Oct. 25, 2021.

With all the construction around the city and the yearly Pow Wow artwork implementation the City of Worcester is continuously being revitalized. These revitalizations work together within the community to keep them engaged in their city.
