Soy is not a magical food, as it is deemed to be. It never was one. But nonetheless, it’s not that bad a food source, the way many stark opponents of soy claim it to be. The major support and in most cases overhyped claims about soy and its health benefits, come from the West, where the soy industry is among the biggest and the most profitable in the world.
On the other hand, demonizing a legume which has been used since thousands of years to an extent that one says that it is absolutely useless and dangerous is the other extreme. From the scare of GMO soy, to the anti-nutrients found in soy; from the estrogenic effect of soy, to comparison of soy with animal protein sources, the stories related to soy are many.
What I found in my research about soy was a confusion between anecdotal evidences and hardcore research. A mix of stories and facts, with a lot of industry influenced research, which was mostly biased. The real challenge was to unearth the facts, from an independent stand point. Though its human to get influenced, and I may surely have been at certain places, but my endeavour has been to be true to the facts.
